Para los estoicos, la ataraxia requiere la adecuación de los deseos personales al logos, la naturaleza como fuente de energía, razón y ley. Otro aspecto importante para consolidarse en la ataraxia es la eliminación del temor a la muerte y a los dioses. Además, se considera contraproducente el quejarse por las adversidades de la vida.
La ataraxia es el camino natural ya que al no emitir juicio alguno, se evitan los conflictos. De este modo, la imperturbabilidad y la serenidad son alcanzadas sin mayor inconveniente.
